3) Doing Business
Errors and Ommissions Insurance, Donald M. Smith
Many Toronto Chapter, ACP International members will be aware that I have been doing some explorations on our members' behalf regarding Errors & Omissions (Professional Liability) insurance.
Initially the advisor we consulted believed that the annual premium for each subscribing member to this group insurance program would be paying a premium of something over $200. Kristina Vohma, Nelson Cusitar and Mark Venning did a lot of work in updating our by laws and preparing the documentation.
Once our information was sent off to the insurance companies, it turned out that this initial advice (about the $200 premium) was outside of the marketplace, and we would have to be paying over $800 per member per year because we do not at this time have enough members to justify the economics.
It is the opinion of Kristina, Mark and myself that this is too much to pay, and we have cancelled this line of enquiry. But all is not lost. Kristina is following up on some other leads and will report back as soon as she has some news to share.
"Independents Forum" - Toronto
Independents Forum Winter Meeting (Report)
A group of ten hardy souls weathered sub-zero January temperatures and rose to the task of putting a little more structure in place for upcoming meetings of the Toronto Chapter's Independents' Forum, both in terms of dates and subject matter to be discussed.

4) Future Thoughts
Career Seer - April 2004
Opinions and predictions from ACP International - Toronto Chapter Members and other professionals in the Career Services industry.
Q: "What do you see happening in the Outplacement/Career Consulting industry?"
Here are some answers from our members:
Big is not better - Larger transition firms re-shaping their organization charts. Fewer consultants, more emphasis on using computer to craft the "tool-box", i.e., resumes, cover letter, marketing letters, business plans and marketing plans.
Continued pressure on fees and further heightening the reality that career transition services are a commodity. Balancing the service and marketing components of our profession will continue to be a very challenging need.
Those in transition are going to have to be even more proactive and self-reliant and not only on sending resumes at random and waiting for the mail carrier and phone to ring. Of key importance (always has been!) how do I differentiate myself in a compressed market demand for fitting job openings. In many ways, the beat goes on!
