Defining Moments

Formed in October 1992, the Toronto Chapter is one of the largest, longest running and most dynamic chapters in ACP International. As a result of the efforts from a core group of passionate and visionary career professionals, Toronto became an influential contributor to the development of professional standards, competencies and ethics of the career services industry largely in the private sector.

The first President of ACP International, Toronto Chapter was Dick Cappon and the other "influential leaders" that formed the core of the initial group included Becky Jones, Catherine Mossop and Nelson Cusitar, all prominent and successful business owners in Toronto's career services community.

In 1997, the Toronto Chapter reinvented itself to include a diverse group that worked for career management firms, corporate career centres and independent businesses in both the private and public sector. Three successful local conferences were held in 1997, 1999 and 2000, which helped raise awareness of the changes impacting the profession and its relationship to the business world.

Now 140 members and growing, ACP International's Toronto Chapter encourages volunteers to join an "Action Team" approach to leadership. We don't believe in committees. We believe in people contributing on a project basis working in small teams that get at developing "work that needs doing". The future of Toronto Chapter will depend on a combination of the wisdom of the past 12 years in sync with the fresh views of tomorrow.

ACP International, Toronto Chapter celebrated its 10th anniversary by hosting the International Conference in June 2002. International members of ACP International, came to Canada to receive the Canadian perspective on the "global future focus" of the career services profession.
